The Marikina Watershed Forest Reserve is located on the island of Luzon , Philippines . It was established on July 26, 1904 on an area of 25,000 hectares in the province of Rizal in the parishes of Rodriguez , Antipolo , Baras , San Mateo and Tanay . The conservation area includes the headwaters of the Marikina River. Parts of the Montalban Gorge are located in the nature reserve, which is known for its white limestone rock formations. The reserve is part of the Sierra Madre Biosphere Corridor, which was established according to the guidelines of the NIPAS Act 1992. In the annex of the NIPAS Act, the nature reserve is referred to as the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape , and it received this status on November 24, 2011.
The reserve is about 50 kilometers east of Manila in the center of the elongated Sierra Madre and includes the largest rainforest in the Rizal province. The Pamitinan Protected Landscape adjoins it in the west . In the nature reserve are Mount Palagyo, 1,405 meters above sea level, and Mount Kinawisan, 1,016 meters above sea level.
The reserve is home to a wide range of the flora and fauna of the Philippines. Tanguile ( Shorea polysperma ), Mayapis ( Shorea palosapis ), Red Lauan ( Shorea negrosensis ), White Lauan ( Pentacme concorta ), Bagtikan ( Parashorea ), Akling Parang ( Albizea procera ), Molave ( Vitex parviflor ) are found on important tropical woods and rare plants ), Dungon ( Heritiera sp. ) And Balayong / Tindalo.
The fauna includes the Philippine eagle ( Pithecophaga jefferyi ), the bankiva chicken ( Gallus gallus ), quail ( Coturnix sp. ), The Philippine deer ( Rusa marianna ), the Philippine pustular pig ( Sus philippensis ), wild cats ( Felis minuta ), the Philippine reticulated pythons ( Phython reticulates ) of Grays Warans ( Varanus olivaceus ) and the Bindenwarans ( Varanus salvator ) is known.
