Manuel Marouane da Costa Trindade Senoussi (born May 6, 1986 in Saint-Max , France ) is a Moroccan football player . Manuel da Costa is the son of a Portuguese father and a Moroccan mother.

Career

Da Costa is a defender and is mostly used in central defense. He started his career at AS Nancy in France . After two seasons he moved to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie . With Eindhoven, da Costa also played in the UEFA Champions League .

After good performance, he moved to the Italian first division club Fiorentina . In Florence he only completed two competition games and was awarded to Sampdoria Genoa for half a year in January 2009 . He played four games in Genoa, including one in the UEFA Cup .

After the loan deal ended, he was transferred to West Ham United as part of an exchange deal . In return, Savio Nsereko moved to Italy.

Since he has been under contract with Lokomotiv Moscow in 2011 , he has not been able to assert himself with the Russians, so that he was awarded to Nacional Funchal in his home country in the 2012/13 season .

In the summer of 2013, Da Costa moved to Sivasspor in the Turkish Süper Lig .

After two seasons with Sivasspor, he moved to Olympiacos for the 2015/16 season . In summer 2017 he returned to Turkey with his move to the first division club Istanbul Başakşehir . He moved to Ittihad FC during the 2018/19 winter transfer period . Since the winter transfer window 2019/2020, he has been under contract in the top Turkish league of the Süper Lig at Trabzonspor , which runs until summer 2020.

National team

Manuel da Costa was born in France to a Portuguese father and a Moroccan mother and could therefore choose whether he wanted to play for the French , Moroccan or Portuguese national team. Although he hardly speaks Portuguese , he initially opted for Portugal.

He played 22 games for Portugal's U-21 national team , he was also in the squad several times for the senior national team, but was not used in any game. Da Costa now played for Morocco's A-Team and came there on May 23, 2014 in a 4-0 win in the friendly against Mozambique for his first appearance. On September 5, 2014, he played his first competitive game for Morocco in the 3-0 success in the qualifier for the Africa Cup 2017 against São Tomé and Príncipe , so that he was now only eligible to play for this country. With Morocco he then took part in the Africa Cup in 2017, in which they failed in the quarter-finals with 0: 1 to Egypt . Da Costa scored his first goal for Morocco in the 2-0 win in the friendly against Uzbekistan on March 27, 2018.

He was in Morocco's squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. Da Costa started the first two games and was substituted on for Iran.
