María Magdalena, pecadora de Magdala is a Mexican feature film from 1946 and its theme is Mary Magdalene , who witnesses the Passion of Jesus Christ .

action

Maria Magdalena, d. i. Maria von Bethanien , the sister of Martha von Bethanien and Lazarus , lives in Israel in an opulent palace and is courted by various men, such as the Egyptian prince Ra-Ho-Tep, who wants to impress her with a stolen jewel.

One day Jesus Christ is walking past their house with a crowd and attracting their attention. She hears one of his sermons, whereupon she begins to rethink. She realizes the superficiality of worldly temptations and begins to turn away the men who court her. When she visits Jesus a little later, the seven deadly sins escape from her at his instigation .

Mary Magdalene begins to lead a more humble life, such as distributing her wealth to others and giving freedom to her slaves. She joins Jesus, who forgives her sins. Ra-Ho-Tep also begins to believe in Jesus after experiencing some of his miracles. Other miracles follow, such as the multiplication of the bread and the raising of Lazarus .

Shortly after the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus enters Jerusalem and is betrayed to the high priests by Judas Iscariot . Jesus holds the Last Supper with his disciples . After his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane , he was tried under governor Pontius Pilate .

Maria Magdalena follows the arrest and the trial as shaken as Jesus' passion and crucifixion . Three days after his death, Jesus is resurrected and ascended to heaven . Mary Magdalene visits Jesus' empty tomb and dies there. Shortly afterwards she too experiences her resurrection and ascension to heaven.
