The Nazarene Maria and the carpenter Josef become engaged. A little later, an angel announces that she will give birth to the Messiah . Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth , who is pregnant with a son, John the Baptist .
Joseph is instructed by angels to take Mary as wife, even though she did not become pregnant by him. Shortly before the confinement, Maria and Joseph travel to Joseph's native city of Bethlehem on the basis of a census ordered by Emperor Augustus . Since there is no more space in the hostel, they are housed in a stable. Meanwhile, the three wise men are led from the star of Bethlehem to Bethlehem. They tell King of the impending birth of the Messiah and are instructed by Herod to tell him as soon as they find him. After the temple cleanse , the high council decides to kill him. Jesus holds the last supper with his disciples . In the garden of Gethsemane , Jesus is betrayed to the Romans by his disciple Judas Iscariot . He will be tried; finally Jesus is sentenced to death by crucifixion by governor Pontius Pilate . Judas repents of his betrayal and hangs himself.
After his resurrection , Jesus appears to his disciples and his mother and ascends to heaven .
Mourned by the disciples, Mary dies; she is taken up into heaven by Jesus .

The film was released in Mexico on February 11, 1948. It contains material from the film María Magdalena, pecadora de Magdala , published two years earlier and also directed by Miguel Contreras Torres .
