Marazion ( Cornish : Marghasyow) is a parish and a place in the former District Penwith of the county of Cornwall in England . The place is on Mount's Bay , 2 km east of Penzance on the Great Western Railway . At low tide, a dam connects St. Michael's Mount Island with Marazion.
St Hilary's Church, which was destroyed in a fire in 1853, has been faithfully recreated. Archaeologists are more interested in their churchyard. Some of the stones labeled there date from the fourth century, one of which was made in honor of Emperor Constantine the Great . Another is inscribed with Cornish characters, but these can no longer be deciphered. There are also British and Roman crosses.
