Career

Rainer, who starts for SK Saalfelden -Salzburg, started biathlon at the age of eight , but switched to ski jumping only two years later and then started his training as a Nordic combined athlete. He made his international debut at the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2014 in Gérardmer , where he finished 19th in the student competition. In the following years Rainer competed regularly in the Alpine Cup of the OPA . He and the team won his first medal at the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2016 in Tarvisio and Villach , when he and Alexander Schuster , Johannes Gschier and Mika Vermeulen relegated the German and French relay teams to their places.

After Rainer reached the podium in the Alpine Cup for the first time in mid-December 2017 in Seefeld in second place, he made his debut in the Continental Cup three weeks later in Høydalsmo . There he jumped straight into the points. A few days later, he took second place in the Alpine Cup competition in Schonach , which qualified him for the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Park City . Together with Samuel Mraz , Florian Dagn and Mika Vermeulen, he was junior world champion with the relay. In the individual competitions it was enough for ninth and 24th place.

In the 2017/18 season he alternated in the Alpine Cup and the Continental Cup , but was ultimately not nominated for the 2018 Junior World Championships. In the overall Continental Cup ranking, he finished 51st. In the following winter, Rainer first competed in the Alpine Cup, where, however, after a third place in Schonach, he was recommended for the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti . While he was not placed in the sprint, he won bronze in the relay and was fourteenth in the Gundersen singles.

At the Gundersen Singles in Oberwiesenthal as part of the 2019 Grand Prix , Rainer won his first Grand Prix points on his debut. His best result was thirteenth place in Tschagguns .
