March (also Mariach ) is a wasteland or one-layer ( individual settlement ) in the Austrian municipality of Virgen, East Tyrolean district of Lienz . The local part was inhabited by nine people in 1981 and is part of the Welzelach fraction .

geography

Along with the Rotte Welzelach, the hamlet of Berg and the individual settlements of Lipper, March is one of the four parts of the Welzelach fraction. March is around 1,350 meters above sea level to the northeast of Welzelach and south of Berg, with the village consisting of two farms being connected to Welzelach by a road that leads from Virgen via Niedermauern , Gries , Rain , Welzelach and Berg to March. The road also continues to the Marcher Alm. In 1981, Marcher housed a total of two houses with two agricultural and forestry operations, with two apartments in the two houses. In 2012, the state of Tyrol recorded the innermarcher (Welzelach-March no. 1) and outer marcher (no. 2) farms for March.

history

March was not specifically mentioned by Statistics Austria for a long time, but included in Welzelach's account. It was only in the course of the 1951 census that March was identified separately as "Mariach", with the part of the village then consisting of two houses with ten residents. In 1961 the statisticians recorded eight inhabitants for March, in 1971 there were seven. Statistics Austria last reported a population for March with nine inhabitants in 1981, since then it has not given any more detailed data for March in the local registers.
