Marcus Richard Kimball, Baron Kimball (* 18th October 1928 in London , † 26. March 2014 in Market Harborough , Leicestershire ) was a British politician of the Conservative Party and Life Peer .

Life

Kimball was born in Marylebone , London in 1928 . He attended Eton College and Trinity College . He worked as a farmer and was an insurance agent for Lloyd's of London .

In 1955 he came unsuccessfully in the Derby South constituency .

He was Councilor of Rutland County Council from 1955 to 1962 and commanded a squadron of the Leicestershire Yeomanry . There he became Lieutenant in 1947 and Captain in 1952 , and Major in 1955 .

Kimball was a hunter and was joint masters of the Fitzwilliam Hunt in 1952 and 1953 and of the Cottesmore Hunt from 1953 to 1958. He was Chairman of the British Field Sports Society from 1966 to 1982 and from 1996 to 1998 President. Since 1998 he has been Vice President (Deputy President) . He has also held senior positions in greyhound racing , show jumping and horse breeding organizations, as well as at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons .

After a court ruled that he had unfairly fired his housekeeper, he paid her compensation, part of which she donated.

Kimball represented PC on the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons from 1969 to 1982 , where he became an Honorary Associate in 1982 .

From 1982 to 1991 he was an external member of the Board (Council) of Lloyd's . In Southeast Assured Tenancies he was from 1988 to 1996 Chairman (Chairman) . From 1989 to 1994 he chaired the Fire Arms Consultative Committee . From 1989 to 1997 he held this position at the University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust . He was Chairman of the British Greyhound Racing Fund Ltd from 1993 to 1996.

In 1989 he was President of the Hunters Improvement Society . From 1991 to 1999 he was President of the Olympia International Show Jumping Championships , and from 1992 to 1997 of the British Institute of Innkeeping .

He was vice president and member of the Trust Council (Trustee) of the Old Carnegie Museum in Melton Mowbray .

Membership in the House of Commons

In 1956 he was elected to the House of Commons in a by-election for the Gainsborough constituency. He held this mandate until 1983. He was succeeded by Edward Leigh .

Membership in the House of Lords

Kimball became the on May 9, 1985 Life peer as Baron Kimball, of Easton in the Leicestershire appointed. He gave his inaugural address on November 13, 1985.

On the website of the House of Lords, he named finance and agriculture as topics of political interest. He named the USA as a state of interest .

His attendance at meeting days fluctuated in the mid-range from the 2001/2002 session onwards. He was completely absent from the 2011/2012 session. In May 2012, however, he again took part in a single meeting day.

Other offices

Kimball has been Deputy President of the Countryside Alliance since 1998 .

Honors

In 1981 he became a Knight Bachelor . From 1984 to 1997 Kimball was Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire and since 1997 of Rutland .
