Marec Béla Steffens

Marec Béla Steffens (born July 23, 1964 in Hamburg ) is a German economist , manager , author and librettist .

Life

Marec Béla Steffens' parents are the composer Walter Steffens and the singer Mechthild Steffens geb. Floor. After graduating from the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg in 1982, Steffens studied economics and modern German literature at the Philipps University of Marburg and from 1984 to 1987 economics at the University of Hamburg with a degree in economics . In 1988/89 he was a research assistant at the private Nordic University of Flensburg at the chair of Harry Maier . In Flensburg he also did his community service in the cafeteria . He then received a one-year DAAD research grant from the Institute for World Economy of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . There he collected material for his dissertation on the American philosopher John Rawls . He completed his doctorate in 1992 at the University of Hamburg. For his doctoral thesis he received the German Society for East European Studies .

From 1991 onwards, Steffens worked for the Siemens Group, until 2004 in the Public Communication Networks division, later mainly in the Oil & Gas Division. He was commercial director of Siemens Telefongyár (1998–2000) and Siemens Hungary (2007–2011), both in Budapest , and worked for several years in Shanghai , Warsaw and Houston . In 2018 he switched to Bilfinger and until 2020 managed the subsidiary Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. in Saudi Arabia .

Steffens writes fairy tale books with sometimes absurd features, in which animals and everyday objects often play the main role. They are aimed primarily at adults, but also at children. All books are illustrated by his wife Krystyna Steffens, who comes from Warsaw. He is represented in a number of anthologies , including a. in the commemorative publication for Herbert Rosendorfer's 70th birthday .

Steffens also works as a librettist for German and American composers.
