from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margit T. Rätzsch , née Margit T. Richter , (born September 13, 1934 in Teplitz-Schönau ; † August 15, 2016 ) was a German physical chemist and professor of physical chemistry . From 1981 to 1989 she was rector of the Technical University "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg .

Life

Margit Theresa Rätzsch, b. Richter was born into a German family as the daughter of a miner. After the Second World War, the family was relocated to Central Germany. Here she completed her school education at elementary and high school in 1952 with the Abitur. She then completed a degree in physics at the University of Leipzig , which she completed in 1956 as a graduate physicist .

She started her career in 1956, initially as a lecturer at the Workers and Farmers Faculty (ABF) at the University of Leipzig. This was followed by an industrial activity in the VEB Rundfunk- und Fernsehtechnik Leipzig as a research assistant from 1957.

In 1959 she moved to the Technical University of Chemistry in Leuna-Merseburg , where she held a position as scientific assistant and consultant to the Vice-Rector for Research until 1964. In that year she also received her doctorate to become a Dr. rer. nat., so that she immediately got a position as senior assistant. She completed this phase of her activity in 1968 with her habilitation .

In 1969 she began working as a university lecturer with appointments as a lecturer and then as a professor for physical chemistry at the Technical University "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg. She was also appointed director of the process chemistry section.

From 1981 to 1990 she was rector of the TH Leuna-Merseburg, succeeding Gert Naue . Her successor in this function was Egon Fanghänel . At the same time she was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle .

With the abolition of the Technical University "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg on March 31, 1993, she took early retirement and continued to live in Merseburg.

The research of Raetzsch lay on the field of physical chemistry and thermodynamics. She was elected in 1976 as a corresponding member and in 1980 as a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (AdW). In 1984 she received the National Prize of the GDR 3rd class in the collective for fundamental work in the field of continuous thermodynamics and its application. In 1987 she was awarded the August Kekulé Medal .

Margit Rätzsch died at the age of 81.
