The ship was built under construction number 227 as Læsø Færgen on Nordsøværftet in Ringkøbing . The launch took place on September 6, 1996. Completion took place in January 1997. After delivery it turned out that the ramp in Frederikshavn was not suitable for loading and unloading the ship. The ship was then adapted and finally used from the beginning of March 1997 between Frederikshavn and Vesterø Havn. In June 1997 the ferry was renamed Margrete Læsø .
