history

In 1644 the Reiners built a small half-timbered chapel in Holtum. This was consecrated on August 14, 1667. A wooden figure of Our Lady was placed in this chapel . As early as 1677 the chapel was demolished because it had become dilapidated. A brick Loreto chapel was then built and consecrated in 1684. A Joseph chapel was added to this in 1757. In 1888 the church was enlarged by a much larger sacrament chapel according to plans by the architect Lambert von Fisenne . This was on June 21, 1894 consecrated . Between 1914 and 1916 the entire complex was restored and decorated between 1922 and 1923.

Until January 1, 2013, Holtum was a chapel parish of the Beeck parish of St. Vincentius. Since this was dissolved, Holtum has since been part of the new large parish of St. Martin Wegberg.

The Loreto Chapel is a rectangular baroque building with a slate mansard roof , on which there is a hexagonal roof turret. One window is a work by Oidtmann in Linnich from 1946, two other works by the artist Frans Deumes from 1946 1962. The furnishings of the sacrament chapel include the tabernacle , a modern folk altar , neo-Gothic benches and also neo-Gothic confessionals .
