Maria A. Stassinopoulou

Maria A. Stassinopoulou , also: Stasinopoulou ( Greek Μαρία Α. Στασινοπούλου , born October 4, 1961 in Athens ) is a Greek neo-Greekist and professor of neo- Greek studies at the University of Vienna .

Maria A. Stassinopoulou first completed a degree in Classical Philology at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Athens , from which she graduated in 1984 with a diploma (Πτυχίο). In 1990 she received her doctorate from the Humanities Faculty of the University of Vienna with a dissertation on the Enlightenment historiographer Konstantinos Michail Koumas (1777–1836) under Gunnar Hering and Richard Georg Plaschka . The habilitation for the subject Neo-Greek was based there on a paper on the history of feature films in Greece in 2000, the appointment to the chair of Neo-Greek at the Institute for Byzantine and Neo- Greek Studies at the University of Vienna in 2002. In 2011, Stassinopoulou became a corresponding member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy chosen of the sciences .

Stassinopoulou works mainly on modern Greek literature and culture, on the history of the Greek diaspora in Southeast and Central Europe and on Greek film history .
