Around 1900, oil production in Wietze rose sharply, as a result of which Catholic workers also moved to Wietze , which has been Protestant since the Reformation . In the autumn of 1904, Klemens Wilke, chaplain at St. Ludwig in Celle, began his work in Wietze, initially with a meeting at Gut Wieckenberg . Around 1908 began construction of the Church of Mary Help of Christians , on 9 October 1910, she was Bishop Adolf Bertram ordained . In 1919 the church got its first local priest with Pastor Friedrich Surkemper , before it was looked after by clergy from St. Ludwig . On August 1, 1956, the Wietze Curate, which previously belonged to the parish of Celle, became an independent parish . The catchment area of ​​the new parish extended to Grethem , Meißendorf , Nienhagen , Schwarmstedt , Suderbruch , Walle and Winsen .

In 1971 the parish of Wietze with the Holy Cross got a branch church in Winsen, about eight kilometers away, which was given to the parish of the Hl. Guardian Angel in Hambühren in 1984/85 .

Since November 1st, 2006 the Church of Mary Help of Christians has belonged to the parish of the Hl. Guardian Angel in Hambühren; the parish Maria Hilfe der Christisten , to which about 640 Catholics belonged at that time, was abolished in this context.

Architecture and equipment

The church has a tower in the form of a ridge turret on the rectory on the main road, the nave is attached to the south . At the beginning of the 20th century, other churches such as the Herz Jesu (Eilsleben) , St. Marien (Loburg) , St. Josef (Löderburg) and St. Paulus (Unterlüß) were built in this design . On the back wall of the sanctuary there is a crucifixion group , including the tabernacle . To the left and right of the sanctuary are statues of Saints Mary and Joseph of Nazareth .
