Hans Marschall (politician)

Willy Hans Marschall (born June 16, 1893 in Leipzig , † February 10, 1970 in Liebertwolkwitz ) was a German politician ( DDP , LDPD ) and publicist , member and vice-president of the Saxon state parliament .

Live and act

Marschall, a trained book printer and later a paper manufacturer , began his political commitment during the Weimar Republic , when he joined the DDP and was a member of its board of directors in the Leipzig City Association. After the Second World War , in September 1945 he belonged to the founding group of the LDPD in Leipzig. In the course of his party activities he held various offices and functions, including chairman of the Leipzig city association, assessor on the board of the Saxony regional association and member of the board of the Dresden district association. Between 1949 and 1954 he headed the State Party School of Saxony on the former Kynast winery in Radebeul , where he lived until his death.

Marschall was a member of the Saxon state parliament during the 2nd electoral period (1946–1952) , in which he served as vice-president and was a member of the council of elders . As a result of the administrative reform of 1952 , he was delegated to the Leipzig District Assembly, but resigned his mandate in autumn 1953.

In the course of his political career, Marschall received a number of honors and state awards from the GDR, including the Wilhelm Külz Badge of Honor in 1958 , the Ernst Moritz Arndt Medal in 1960 , the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in 1963 (bronze in 1958) and the 1968 German Peace Medal .

In old age he published several works on the history of the bourgeoisie and the democratic movement in Germany. Marschall died during a visit to Liebertwolkwitz . He was buried in the Magdeborn cemetery and reburied around 1978 before it disappeared due to lignite mining.

Marschall was married to the poet and local politician Maria Marschall-Solbrig (1897–1979) since 1927 .
