life and career

Maria May was born under the name Lola-Maria Gorokhov in the Spanish coastal city and capital of Catalonia, Barcelona. Her mother, Elisa Metreveli, a Georgian-born teacher and seamstress who had been interested in ballet since childhood, brought the ballerina, later known as Maria May, into connection with classical dance. Metreveli once wanted to become a ballet dancer herself, but had to give up this dream early on when her mother died when she was four years old and the single father of three children urged his offspring to get a good education that left no time for ballet. Elisa Metreveli, a graduate of the State University of Tbilisi , came to New York City in 2004 with her daughter, who at that time still bore the name Gorokhov and would continue to bear it for a few more years . Immediately after arriving in the United States, the then six-year-old attended the School of American Ballet and moved with her mother to the Chelsea-Elliot Houses , a combined housing project of the New York City Housing Authority that provides housing as well as jobs.

Two years later, her mother worked as a seamstress and produced costumes for ballet and figure skating, she was brought into the role of a rabbit in The Nutcracker and thus officially appeared for the first time in 2006 for the New York City Ballet company at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on. In 2007 she was chosen to play the main role of Marie , often also known as Clara , to dance in one of the two alternating casts. There is evidence that she continued to play this role in the following two years. The same year she got the role of Marie , Gorokhov was in the 43-minute dance short film Learn To Be A Princess! used by Jamie Lustberg . Over the years, Gorokhov also began training at the Professional Performing Arts School . After countless ballet appearances, the dancer now known as Maria May was hired by the television station Nick Jr. to perform the squirrel Hop in the Israeli-British-South Korean television series Zack and Quack . She had this role in all 26 and 52 episodes, each episode was divided into two different segments, and was then seen in the short film If the Trees Could Talk in the same year . In the German-dubbed version of Zack and Quack her character was the voice of Peggy Pollow borrowed. For her performance as a leading role in Michael Weinstein's short film, she was nominated for a Festival Award in the category “Best Lead Actress in a Short Film” at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema, London, but could not stand up to Gianna Gomez , who won the award for her involvement in Catching Fireflies .

This year she was also nominated for a Festival Award in the category “Best Lead Actress in a Short Film” at the Madrid International Film Festival ; Director Weinstein and the film itself were also nominated in other categories at this award ceremony. The film also celebrated further successes at various other film festivals and the American Movie Awards , where the film was awarded in the “Best Narrative Short” category. In 2015, Maria May also appeared in an episode of the ABC program Primetime: What Would You Do? in appearance and will make her feature film debut in Paul Borgheses Back in the Day in 2016 alongside actors such as Alec Baldwin , Danny Glover and Shannen Doherty or alongside William DeMeo . In addition to her acting and ballet career, Maria May also appears as a model, including in various commercials. For example, she was in a 2012 commercial for the Meep! by the US manufacturer Oregon Scientific or in 2013 in a Spanish advertisement for the endless shrimp menu from the US seafood chain Red Lobster . She had other appearances in 2013 in a commercial for the Comcast Group's Xfinity service , and in 2014 in a spot for Stouffer’s Macaroni and Cheese .
