In the decades before the Second World War , only a few Catholics lived in Ahlem, they belonged to the parish " St. Benno " in Linden-Nord . In the post-war period, the number of Catholics in Ahlem rose sharply due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Reich , so that Catholic services have been held in Ahlem since 1946. The first service took place on May 1, 1946 in a refugee camp that had previously housed the Hanover-Ahlem satellite camp. From 1955 onwards, the Protestant emergency church also served the Catholics for their services, later the community hall of the Protestant Martin Luther congregation.
