from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marianne Sin-Pfältzer (born April 12, 1926 in Hanau ; † August 27, 2015 in Nuoro , Italy ) was a German photographer .

Life

Marianne Pfältzer came to Sardinia at the age of 24 in 1950 , where she initially made contact with the family of a naval officer in La Maddalena . She bought an Agfa Isolette medium format camera and was able to portray personalities like Clelia Garibaldi . After her residence permit had expired, she returned to Germany and studied at the Bavarian State College for Photography in Munich . From 1954 she stayed in Paris and Provence , returned to Sardinia in 1955 and worked as a freelance photographer. In addition to celebrities such as Pablo Picasso in his studio in southern France, she portrayed the country and life of the common people in Sardinia.

In 1961, she married the Korean architect Dong-Sam Sin in Germany. The marriage did not last long, but Sin-Pfältzer kept the double name. From 1976 she turned to designing textile patterns. The city of Hanau was not interested in an appreciation of their work, so in 2005 they took their retirement home in Sardinia. She died in a car accident. Several Italian newspapers published obituaries highlighting her photojournalistic work for Sardinia.

The estate of Marianne Sin-Pfältzer with around 13,000 negatives can be found in the archive of the Ilisso publishing house in Nuoro. This publisher dedicated an extensive illustrated book to her in 2012, which presents 327 of her works.
