Marie-Antoine Roy

Marie-Antoine Roy OFM (born March 24, 1893 in Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse , Québec , Canada ; † October 27, 1948 ) was a Canadian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Edmundston .

Life

Marie-Antoine Roy studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Quebec . He received on Aug. 6, 1916 by the Archbishop of Quebec , Louis-Nazaire Cardinal Bégin , the sacrament of Holy Orders . Then Roy was parish vicar in the parish of Sainte-Croix-de-Lotbinière . In 1917 he joined Montreal the Congregation of the Franciscan in and put on 16 July 1918, the simple profession from. Solemn profession followed three years later.

On June 9, 1945 Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the first bishop of Edmundston. The Apostolic Delegate in Canada, Archbishop Ildebrando Antoniutti , donated him episcopal ordination on August 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of the Diocese of Saint John, New Brunswick , Patrick Albert Bray CIM , and the Bishop of Bathurst , Camille-André Le Blanc .
