Marie Zimmermann (General Manager)

Marie Zimmermann (born December 27, 1955 in Simmerath ; † April 18, 2007 in Hamburg ) was a German dramaturge and artistic director .

Life

Zimmermann studied German , philosophy and sociology at the University of Aachen . She then worked as a freelance journalist and press officer as well as a lecturer in literary studies and German as a foreign language .

From 1985 Zimmermann turned to the theater. Among other things, she worked as a dramaturge at the Württemberg State Theater in Esslingen , the Freiburg Municipal Theaters and the Stuttgart State Theater . From 1997 to 2000 she was artistic director of the international festival Theaterformen , which was organized by the state theaters in Braunschweig and Hanover together with the Expo 2000 and in which there were multiple co-productions with the Wiener Festwochen . From 2001 until her death she was acting director of the Wiener Festwochen under the director Luc Bondy . In July 2005 Zimmermann directed the Stuttgart Festival Theater der Welt .

On February 28, 2006, Zimmermann's appointment as director of the RuhrTriennale 2008 to 2010 as the successor to Jürgen Flimm was announced.

Since 1999 she was married to the artistic director Friedrich Schirmer . Both met in 1984.

Marie Zimmermann, who suffered from bipolar disorder, committed suicide in a psychiatric clinic.

The Marie Zimmermann Prize for Theater Criticism and the Marie Zimmermann Scholarship for Dramaturgy commemorate her.
