Life
Grechowa graduated from secondary school in Moscow in 1918 and studied physics at Moscow University (MGU) , graduating in 1924. During her studies, she taught and worked as a secretary. This was followed by a three-year traineeship at BA Wwedenski . She worked on problems of generating and amplifying electromagnetic waves in the short-wave range .
From 1932 to 1960 Grechowa taught and researched at Gorky University . In 1936 she received her doctorate in physical-mathematical sciences . In 1938 she was appointed professor. She headed the chair for electrodynamics . Thanks to their efforts, the Radiation Physics Faculty was set up at Gorky University during the German-Soviet War and the Physico-Technical Research Institute (GIFTI) was founded.
In 1956 Grechowa founded the Gorkier Radiation Physics Institute (NIRFI) and headed it as director until 1972. She developed powerful microwave devices. She was also involved in the development of the theory of autowaves and editor-in-chief of a corresponding book.
Grechowa was married to the physicist Viktor Ivanovich Gaponow (1903-1990). The physicists Andrei Wiktorowitsch Gaponow-Grechow and Sergei Wiktorowitsch Gaponow are her sons.
