Marion Kasun (born April 5, 1980 in Vinkovci , SR Croatia ) is a Croatian basketball player . Kasun was German champion in 2004 with the Opel Skyliners and won the national cup competitions in Spain in 2007, Turkey in 2009 and in his Croatian homeland in 2011 with his respective teams . In the 2014/15 season, Kasun played for the Bulgarian double winner Levski Sofia, among others also in the ABA league .

Player career

Kasun started playing basketball late, at the age of 14. Because of his size and talent, he played in the 2nd Croatian league at the club from Velika Gorica at the age of 17 . The following year he signed a contract with the first division club KK Zrinjevac from the capital Zagreb until 2007. The transfer fee stipulated in this contract prevented him from moving to the US college league NCAA . In the college team Bulldogs of Gonzaga University , he also failed the entrance test for foreign students, which is why he was classified as "ineligible" for the NCAA and did not take part in any competitive game. His later team, RheinEnergie Cologne , could not agree on the transfer fee with Zagreb either, so that he did not play a single role in the BBL in the 2001/2002 season . In the following year he switched to the Opel Skyliners Frankfurt , with whom he won the German championship in 2004 and took part in the 2004 BBL All-Star Game .

In 2002 he was selected in the NBA Draft in 41st place overall by the Los Angeles Clippers , who immediately passed the rights on to the Orlando Magic . For the 2004/2005 season he received a contract in Orlando. He never got out of the role of a substitute player there, so he accepted an offer from AXA FC Barcelona . In 2007 he won the Spanish cup competition Copa del Rey with this team . From 2008 to 2010 Kasun played for the Turkish top club Efes Pilsen Istanbul , only to return home to Zagreb to KK Zagabria from the 2010/11 season. After two seasons, he moved to the Italian series champion Montepaschi from Siena in 2012 . The contract was terminated at the end of the year because Kasun wanted to return to his Croatian homeland. Then Kasun was only active again in the 2013/14 season with the al-Wasl club in Dubai . For the 2014/15 season he returned to Europe and signed a contract in the Bulgarian capital Sofia with Levski, who will take part in the ABA League for the first time in 2014 as the Bulgarian double winner and winner of the Balkan League (BIBL) .
