Mario Schmolka (born 1975 in Vienna ) is an Austrian fashion and portrait photographer .

life and work

Schmolka graduated from the college for photography at the Höhere Graphische Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna and took on an assistant to Andreas Bitesnich . This was followed by a two-year stay in Milan , where he worked for the fashion photographers Aldo Fallai , Thomas Schenk , Liz Collins and Michael Wooley . a. assisted in productions for Versace , Moschino , Prada , Etro and Trussardi .

Back in Vienna he started his own business and quickly took photos for international brands and fashion magazines such as the German Vogue and the Italian Vanity Fair , for Glamor , Amica , Issue One , GQ or the Austrian Magazine for Fashion and Photograph, Peng! . His clients include Astor, Cartier , Estée Lauder , H&M , Luisa Cerano , Olymp, Palmers , Pantene , Peek & Cloppenburg , Procter & Gamble , Panasonic , Rimmel London , Silhouette , D. Swarovski and Wella .

He published his personal view of the world in 2005 in the illustrated book Intense - he calls these works "intimate portraits" - and then shown them in two solo exhibitions. In addition to his fashion and beauty work, he portrays personalities, especially from the fashion world, such as Tommy Hilfiger , Aerin Lauder , Karim Rashid , Manolo Blahnik or Bar Refaeli . He is also a visiting lecturer at the Art Institute of New York City .

Schmolka, his wife Katja and their two sons Nils and Marvin lived in New York City from 2008 to 2014 and then moved to Malibu (California) . He himself divides his working hours between Europe and the United States.
