Mario Schröder (* 1965 in Finsterwalde ) is a German dancer , choreographer and ballet director.

Life

Mario Schröder received his eight-year dance training at the Palucca School in Dresden from Gret Palucca , Hans-Joachim Metz and Patricio Bunster . From 1983 to 1999 he was principal soloist with the Leipzig Ballet of the Leipzig Opera - from 1991 under the direction of Uwe Scholz . He also studied choreography at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin .

In 1999 he was appointed ballet director and chief choreographer at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg , before moving to the Kiel Theater in the same position in the 2001/2002 season. Since the 2010/2011 season he has been ballet director and chief choreographer of the Leipzig Ballet at the Leipzig Opera .

Mario Schröder is a member of the Federal German Ballet and Dance Theater Directors Conference (BBTK).

Mario Schröder has created well over 100 choreographies and has received several awards for his choreographic work. As a dancer and choreographer he worked a. a. in Japan, USA, Russia, Mongolia, France and other European countries. In Germany his works were a. a. at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin , the Theater Dortmund , the Aalto Ballett Theater Essen and the Oper Leipzig . Outside of the Leipzig Opera House, the Leipzig Ballet appears primarily through its project series Dance in the Houses of the City . In these productions, Mario Schröder and his company explore sensational and inspiring architectural locations for which architecture- and usage-specific choreographies are created, often in conjunction with electronic media and artists from contemporary art. So far, the Leipzig Ballet has danced in more than 20 locations in Leipzig. In October 2012 and for the anniversary year 2019, Mario Schröder created a choreography for the Festival of Lights on Augustusplatz in Leipzig , an event that annually recalls the Monday demonstrations of the peaceful revolution in autumn 1989 with up to 10,000 visitors .
