Live and act

Membrives, who grew up in Córdoba, initially trained as a flamenco singer. She also worked as an actress on television. After graduating as Cante Flamenco from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya , she received a scholarship from the Anna Riera Fondation and the AIE for outstanding achievements. She trained in jazz and contemporary music at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and the Taller de Músics and studied with Mayte Martín , Juan Manuel Cañizares , Juan Ramón Caro , Arcángel , Chicuelo , Chiqui de la Linea , Ana Finger and Feliu Gassull . She also received training in flamenco dance and as an actress.

Membrives worked with Miguel Ángel Cortés , Pastora Galván , La Moneta , Daniel García Diego and Chicuelo as well as with the theater group La Fura dels Baus , with whom she realized the Frebach 212 project. During her further career she has participated in festivals and productions such as the Ciutat Flamenco 2014 , the production Candelas El amor Brujo by Culturarts (Comunitat Valenciana) and a festival in Mexico.

In 2014, Membrives released the album Llorona (Whatabout Music), which, in addition to its own compositions, presented themes by Luis Alberto Spinetta , Lole y Manuel or Javier Ruibal and popular standards, presenting her voice exclusively in a duo with the double bass by Masa Kamaguchi . For El País the album is “a demonstration of freedom and excellence and even excess in fashion”. In it the singer practiced "risky exercises of introspection".

In 2016, Membrives interpreted the album Omega , which Enrique Morente recorded with the rock band Lagartija Nick in 1996 , in a jazz context, for which the critics certified it as “daring”. In 2019 she performed in a duo with guitarist Marc Ribot with Lorca. Spanish Songs (Karonte) presented a reinterpretation of folk songs that Federico García Lorca had collected and played himself. For Deutschlandfunk Kultur, the album is “simple and multi-colored and also somehow archaic”.

In addition, Membrives has also specialized in the field of vocal technique and musicological research. She has given particular interest to Latin American folklore and its influence on flamenco and Spanish music in general. She also composed film music for the comedy Antonio cumple 50 .

Membrives has lived and worked in Barcelona for many years .
