Fuensanta la Moneta (born January 16, 1984 in Granada ), actually Fuensanta Fresneda Galera , is a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer .

Life

childhood

Unlike many other flamenco artists, Fuensanta had no family role models. However, of her own volition, she had a desire to dance flamenco from childhood. So at the age of eight she entered a dance school in her neighborhood and two years later the Mariquilla dance school . In 1996, at the age of twelve, she made her first professional appearances in the La Rocío cellar in the Sacromonte district. This year and the following, she received the first award for performing arts. Another year later, in 1998, she took part as an invited artist in the final of the performing arts competition in Oviedo .

She continued her training with a number of master dancers, including Manolete , Mario Maya , Javier Barón , Juana Amaya , Matilde Coral and Israel Galván .

Career as a young dancer

At the age of 16 she left Granada and moved to Madrid. There she appeared in a number of tablaos and gave a number of performances in the play Pureza Flamenca in the city theaters of Madrid . She then went on a tour to Germany, Greece, France and Luxembourg.

In 2003 she won the Desplante Minero Prize at the Festival del Cante de las Minas in La Unión for her interpretation of Taranto and Seguiriya . Then she joined the company of Javier Latorre on. In 2004 she danced in their productions Rinconete y Cortadillo and Triana, en nombre de la rosa . She also appeared in the Flamenco viene del sur cycle , at the Biennale in Seville and at festivals in a number of other Spanish cities, each with her own solo interpretations. She toured Japan, Berlin and Croatia and danced at the festival in Monterrey, Mexico .

In 2006 she performed a sequence of her dances at the Seville Biennale, Alegrías in the style of Matilde Coral, the Farruca after Javier Latorre and the Seguiriya in her own way. She also had a small role in the film ¿Por qué se frotan las patitas? by Álvaro Begines . In 2007 she went on tours that took her to Washington , New York, London, Geneva , Nîmes , Bayonne and Toulouse .

That year, on the occasion of Málaga en Flamenco , she also presented her first own dance play De entre la luna y los hombres . Verses by the two poets Ángeles Mora and Teresa Gómez set the theme of the play: the everyday life of women with their troubles and rare joys and the low esteem on the part of men, and the review of past love affairs. Holographic images were projected onto large white canvases . In 2009 she performed the piece at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.

In 2008, again for the Málaga Biennale, she took to the stage with Lo que traje el aire , a suite of dances from the cante jondo , the profound, serious flamenco. She also performed the piece at the Dutch Flamenco Festival in Rotterdam .

More recent past until 2019

With the piece Extremo jondo , she also set the cante jondo as a theme at the 2010 Festival of Granada. She danced to the same piece at the 2012 Jerez Festival. With La Moneta, paso a paso , she created a kind of anthology of her previous work, which she performed at the 2012 Seville Biennale and the 2015 Jerez Festival.

In 2013 she danced with Manuel Liñán in Duende , a homage to the poet Federico García Lorca and a tribute to the Concurso de cante jondo competition , which he organized in 1922 together with Manuel de Falla .

In 2014 she took part in the Jueves Flamencos cycle with Muy especial . Among other things, she performed this piece in Vancouver in 2017 .

In 2015 she created Divino amor humano, a spiritual dance show based on verses by Teresa von Ávila and Federico García Lorca. With this she played at the Jerez Festival in 2017 and performed in Brussels .

For the 2016 Jerez Festival, she staged Fui pedra with the formation Laboratorio Coreográfico de Flamenco Urbano.

In 2017 she expanded her repertoire to include her dance play Hasta el tuétano. She performed it for the first time at the Los Veranos del Corral Festival in Granada, and later at the Úbeda and Madrid festivals in 2018 and at the Jueves Flamencos cycle in Seville in 2019 .

For the 2018 Seville Biennial, she dedicated herself to her Granada homeland with Granada solo tiene salida por las estrellas . She danced the palos in the manner typical of Granada and the region, accompanied by singing to verses by Federico García Lorca and regional poets.

reception

José Luis Navarro García characterized her dance as follows:

“La Moneta has un baile que tiene sus cimientos en la escuela granadina. Un baile de carácter y genio, pero un baile rico de matices y formas de encararlo, con momentos solemnes (…) Un baile que no se autolimita a sus raíces, porque Fuensanta está atenta a los nuevos derroteros de la coreografía flamenca. »

“La Moneta offers a dance that has its foundations in the school of Granada. A dance of character and genius, but a dance rich in nuances and aspects, with solemn moments (...) A dance that is not limited to its roots, because Fuensanta respects the new paths of flamenco choreography. "

Manuel Martín Martín, critic of El Mundo newspaper , wrote of them:

«La granadina es el calor del arte. (...) eso lo apreciamos en los tientos con ecos de zambra y tangos, donde los matices no olían a humo y sólo nos alcanzaban la quietud de sus gestos y la furia del encanto. "

“The (dancer) from Granada is the warmth of art. (…) We appreciate that in the tientos with echoes of zambra and tangos , where the design did not smell of smoke and only the silence of their gestures and the passion of their charm reached us. "
