Marius Stankevičius (born July 15, 1981 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian football player .

Club career

Stankevičius played for FK Ekranas until 2001 and then was under contract with Italian clubs for over ten years. In the 2010/11 season he played on loan for Valencia CF , where he was to replace the migrated Alexis and Carlos Marchena . Stankevičius played in the Primera División the previous season , but at Sevilla FC . In July 2011, Lazio announced the signing of Stankevičius.

For the 2013/14 season the Turkish first division club Gaziantepspor signed him . After a season Stankevičius left this club again.

For the 2014/15 season , Stankevičius joined the Bundesliga club Hannover 96 . He received a contract until the end of the season. On October 25, 2014, he made his first appearance for the first team in a 1-0 win against Borussia Dortmund .

Stankevicius currently plays in the Spanish Segunda División at FC Córdoba .

National team

Stankevičius plays in the Lithuanian national team , of which he is the captain . He made his debut against Estonia in July 2001 . Previously, Stankevičius was also a player in the national U-21 team.

In 2008 and 2009, Stankevičius was voted Footballer of the Year in Lithuania .
