Mark John Byrnes (born February 8, 1982 in Sydney ) is a former Australian football player .
Career
society
Byrnes joined Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League in 1999 from the NSW Institute of Sport . That season he completed 22 games for Parramatta, in which he scored two goals.
In January 2001 he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club SV Austria Salzburg . He made his debut in the Bundesliga in March 2001 when he was in the starting line-up against SV Ried on matchday 24 of the 2000/01 season . In total, Byrnes completed seven games for Austria Salzburg in the Bundesliga, in which he remained without a goal. Between 2001 and 2002 he was briefly in Italy with Vicenza Calcio under contract, for which he was not used.
In 2002 he returned to Australia and moved to Sydney Olympic , for which he completed eight games in the NSL by the end of the year. In January 2003 he moved to league rivals Perth Glory . With Perth Glory he became champions in 2003 and 2004.
In the summer of 2004 Byrnes moved to Finland for FC Hämeenlinna . He played his first game for Hämeenlinna in the Veikkausliiga in July 2004 against FF Jaro . He scored his first goal in the top Finnish league in August 2004 in a 2-2 draw against FC Jazz Pori . At the end of the season he rose with Hämeenlinna as bottom of the table from the Veikkausliiga.
He then returned to Australia in 2005, where he moved to the newly formed A-League at Melbourne Victory . In September 2005 he played his first game in the A-League against Perth Glory. He scored his first goal in February 2006 in a 2-1 win over the New Zealand Knights .
In 2007 Byrnes moved to the second division Richmond SC . In 2009 he joined the APIA Leichhardt Tigers . Between September and October of the same year he was briefly loaned to the A-League club Gold Coast United , for which he only came for a one-minute assignment. After the loan ended, he returned to the APIA Leichhardt Tigers, for whom he played until the end of his career.
National team
Byrnes reached in 1999 with the 17 team U-Australian in the World Cup the final. In 2001 he took part in the World Cup with the U-20 team , which reached the round of 16.
