Marko Milič (born May 7, 1977 in Kranj , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian basketball player. The 1.99 m tall power forward was the first Slovenian in the NBA and has been playing in Kuwait since 2013 .

Career

Milič was discovered and promoted as a great talent early on. In 1993, when he was 16, he became a member of the Slovenian national team . With Olimpija Ljubljana he was three times Slovenian champion, two of them in 1995 and 1997 as a double combined with victory in the national cup competition. In 1997 he moved directly from Slovenia to the NBA to the Philadelphia 76ers , but played there in no NBA game. This changed with the Phoenix Suns , but in one and a half seasons he only came up with a total of 220 minutes of playing time. This time was interrupted by the lockout in the NBA in 1998. During this time Milič played for Fenerbahçe from Istanbul in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi .

1999 Milič returned to Union Olimpija in Ljubljana , but they could not defend their championship title. After a season at Real Madrid , in which they lost in the final of the Spanish championship and the "Copa del Rey" cup competition, five years followed in which Milič was active in Italy for Fortitudo from Bologna , in Roseto and Pesaro as well as Virtus from Bologna was. With Fortitudo Skipper he was once Italian runner-up and with Scavolini Pesaro he was once a cup finalist. In 2006 he returned to Olimpija Ljubljana. In early 2007 he played again briefly for Real Madrid and was with this club Spanish champions and winner of the ULEB Cup , where he was only a few games in use before he missed the rest of the season due to an injury. He then returned to Ljubljana, where he again won two doubles with Union Olimpija in 2008 and 2009.

In 2009 Milič moved to the French LNB Pro A to the Entente 45 club from Orléans , which he left after a few games in early December. Milič then returned to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A in early 2010 and played for the promoted Vanoli from Cremona . In the following two and a half seasons it was only enough to stay in the league. At the beginning of December 2012 he followed the former Slovenian national coach Memi Bečirovič to Mahram Tehran in the Iranian Super League. In March 2013 he moved to Kuwaiti Division I for al-Kuwait SC, where he plans to stay beyond the end of the season.

Milič is one of the most consistent players in the Slovenian national team and has so far taken part in six European championships (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005) and the 2006 World Cup. At the European Championships in 2007, however, he was absent due to an injury.
