Marko Simonović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Марко Симоновић ; born May 30, 1986 in Pristina , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian basketball player . In addition to clubs in his home country, Simonović also played a season for the German first division club ALBA Berlin in the 2011/12 basketball Bundesliga . In the 2012/13 season he played for Red Star in the Serbian capital Belgrade , with which he won the national cup in 2013.

Career

In 2003 Simonović moved from KK Radnički Belgrade to local rivals KK Lavovi 063 in Belgrade, for whom he played in the top national division. After the dissolution of the team in 2005, he moved to Niš to Ergonom, before he joined the Belgian champions from Ostend at the beginning of the 2006/07 season. In December 2006 he returned to his Serbian homeland and played for KK Hemofarm in Vršac , with whom he lost the finals in the Adriatic League and in the Serbian championship against KK Partizan Belgrade in the second season in 2008 .

For the 2008/09 season, Simonović moved to Montenegro to the dominant KK Budućnost from the capital Podgorica , with whom he subsequently also won the national championship and cup double three times . The best placement in the Adria League was reaching the semi-finals 2011, which was lost to defending champion KK Partizan with four points. In the European club competition ULEB Eurocup they were eliminated in the first group phase in 2009 and 2011. In the following Eurocup 2011/12 Simonović reached the next round with his new club, the German runner-up ALBA from the German capital Berlin , together in a group with Budućnost. While Budućnost made it to the quarter-finals of this competition, ALBA was eliminated in the second round of the 16 best teams. Even in the national championship, the German runner-up was eliminated in the first play-off round against the promoted s.Oliver Baskets despite home advantage .

For the 2012/13 season, Simonović signed a contract with Red Star in Belgrade, with which he celebrated the 2013 national cup victory in the final against local rivals KK Partizan.

National team

Simonović was part of the Serbian national team that won the silver medal at the 2014 Basketball World Cup .
