Markus Eriksson (born November 29, 1989 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish tennis player .

Career

Eriksson mainly plays on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Future Tour . He has celebrated three tournament wins in singles and twelve in doubles on the Future Tour so far. He made his debut on the ATP World Tour in October 2013 at the If Stockholm Open , for which he received a wildcard and played against Kenny de Schepper in the first round of the main draw . He lost the game 4: 6, 7: 5 and 5: 7.

Eriksson has played for the Swedish Davis Cup team since 2012 . He played his first game in the play-off against Belgium , losing it in straight sets to David Goffin . In the end it was 5-0 for Belgium and the Swedes were relegated from the world group to continental group I. In 2013 he celebrated his first match win for the Davis Cup team in the quarter-finals against Ukraine . Although he defeated Denys Moltschanow in the second match , Sweden lost the match 2: 3 and had to play in the first relegation round against Slovakia , against which they lost. In the second round, however, Sweden won against Denmark and managed to stay in the continental group I. Eriksson contributed with his victory over Frederik Nielsen to the 3-2 victory against Denmark.

Eriksson won his first title on the Challenger Tour in July 2018. In Tampere he and his compatriot André Göransson defeated the Russian duo Iwan Gachow and Alexander Pavlyuchenkow in three sets.
