Markus Tingart (born July 5, 1968 in Düren ) is a German orthopedist, university professor and director of the orthopedic clinic at the Aachen University Hospital of the RWTH Aachen . He is also professor of orthopedics and trauma surgery - with a focus on orthopedics - at RWTH Aachen University. Tingart's personal focus is on joint and tumor surgery with proven expertise in foot, shoulder, hip and knee joint surgery. He has a great clinical and scientific reputation in the fields of computer-assisted and minimally invasive endoprosthetics and complex revision endoprosthetics.

Life

From 1989 to 1995 Tingart studied human medicine at the RWTH Aachen. He received his medical training in orthopedics at the University of Cologne . He then worked as an assistant doctor at the II. Surgical Chair at the University of Cologne. After a stay in the USA at Harvard Medical School (Department of Orthopedic Surgery) in Boston in 2000 and 2001, Tingart moved to the University of Regensburg , where he initially worked as an assistant doctor at the orthopedic clinic, then completed his training as a specialist in orthopedics and completed his habilitation in orthopedics in 2004 . In 2005, Tingart obtained the qualification as a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery as well as the license to teach orthopedics. He was also appointed private lecturer at the University of Regensburg . From 2005 he was senior physician at the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Regensburg, and since 2006 he has been deputy director of the clinic. In addition, Tingart studied health economics at the Riedlingen University from 2008 to 2010 and graduated with a degree in business administration . In October 2010, Tingart moved to the RWTH Aachen University Clinic and took over the management of the Orthopedic Clinic. In addition, he holds a W3 professorship for orthopedics and trauma surgery with a focus on orthopedics at the Medical Faculty of RWTH Aachen University. Since 2016, Tingart has been Vice Dean of the RWTH Faculty of Medicine, responsible for studies and teaching.

During his medical training, Tingart also completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination in order to be able to work as a medical practitioner in the USA. Between 1999 and 2007 he interned at various well-known university institutions in the Anglo-American region with visiting professorships at various universities. To this end, he completed an apprenticeship as a “doctor in the rescue service” and in the field of “radiation protection: emergency and X-ray diagnostics of the entire skeleton”.

Research priorities

Tingart's main research areas include:

  • Development and evaluation of computer-assisted and minimally invasive surgical techniques in knee and hip arthroplasty
  • Gene expression and microarchitecture of the trabecular bone in aseptic femoral head necrosis and its importance for the stability of hip prostheses
  • Bone quality of the proximal humerus and its importance for the surgical management of rotator cuff ruptures and proximal humerus fractures
  • Alterations in the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells and sympathetic and sensory nerve fibers of the proximal femur and their significance for the pathogenesis of femoral head necrosis
  • Non-invasive monitoring of osteoarthritis-like cartilage degeneration using optical 3D coherence tomography
  • Development of modern simulation and modeling methods to research the pathogenesis and therapy of degenerative joint diseases
  • Development and optimization of non-invasive measurement methods for spine and gait analysis
  • Development of new bio-activation techniques for ceramic surfaces to optimize bone healing in medical implants
  • Individualized implants in knee and hip surgery
