Marquirivi is a town in the La Paz department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Marquirivi is the second largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Colquencha in the province of Aroma and is located at an altitude of 3965  m . To the east of Colquencha, the wide plain of the Bolivian highlands extends to the Serranía de Sicasica , directly to the west of the town is a north-south-facing mountain range that rises to 4,500 m.

Marquirivi is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

The annual average temperature of the region is 10 ° C (see Colquencha climate diagram), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 7 ° C in June / July and just under 12 ° C in November. From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto , from there 39 kilometers south on Ruta 1 to the village of Vilaque Copata . From Vilaque Copata a dirt road leads sixteen kilometers in a south-westerly direction via Machacamarca to the administrative center of the municipality, Colquencha , and from there in a north-westerly direction after three kilometers to Marquirivi . Another three kilometers in a north-westerly direction leads the road to Collana , the administrative seat of the neighboring municipality.
