Marsha Stephanie Blake
Marsha Stephanie Blake (* in Jamaica ) is an American actress of Jamaican origin. She became famous for her role in the series Orange Is the New Black and When They See Us . For the latter, she was nominated for an Emmy in 2019 .
life and career
Marsha Stephanie Blake was born in Jamaica. Her parents immigrated to the United States with her and her brother in the late 1980s.
Blake has appeared regularly at the theater since the beginning of her acting career, including in productions such as The Merchant of Venice , Witch Hunt (Drama) or Hurt Village . Since 2002 she has also been active in film and television. She took on her first role in front of the camera in a guest appearance in the series Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit . This was followed by appearances in Law & Order: New York and in 2006 for the first time in a feature film in The Architect . In 2012 she played a mini role in Quentin Tarantino's western Django Unchained , although the role was not mentioned by name in the credits.
She also made guest appearances with The Big C , A Gifted Man , Elementary , Girls and Chicago PD. In 2015 she was cast as Berdie Rogers in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black . Together with her fellow actors, she received a Screen Actors Guild Award for best ensemble in a Comy series .
After other small roles and series, Blake was cast in the role of Linda McCray in the miniseries When They See Us, also produced by the streaming provider Netflix . The series thematized the real events of the so-called Central Park Five . Blake played the mother of a suspected rapist in it. Her acting performance earned her an Emmy nomination in the category Best Supporting Actress - Miniseries or TV Movie . In 2019 she took on the supporting role of Vivian Maddox in the final sixth season of the series How to Get Away with Murder .
Blake has one daughter and lives in Los Angeles .
