Martin Stocker (born December 16, 1979 in Schladming ) is a former Austrian ski racer . He started in all disciplines. In 1997 he became junior world champion in super-G.

Career

Stocker competed in his first FIS races in December 1994 , in March 1996 he was among the top ten for the first time and in January 1997 he was among the top three for the first time. He celebrated his greatest successes as a 17-year-old at the Junior World Championships in 1997 in his home town of Schladming. In the Super-G he won the gold medal and in the slalom behind Mitja Dragšič from Slovenia the silver medal. As a junior world champion, he was able to start in the Super-G at the World Cup final in Vail , where he finished 25th - and last - place. This was his only World Cup race.

From the 1997/98 season , Stocker started in the European Cup in addition to FIS races . The 20th place in his first race, the Obereggen slalom on December 13, 1997, remained his best European Cup result for several years. Often times he couldn't finish his races. In February 1998, the Styrian Austrian junior champion in giant slalom. At the 1998 Junior World Championships , which took place shortly afterwards , he remained without a medal. His best place was fourth in the Super-G. The 1998-99 season had Stocker after falling in the European Cup giant slalom in Kranjska Gora on January 7 prematurely terminate. The next season was already over for Stocker on January 20th after a failure in the FIS giant slalom in Kirchberg .

In the 2000/01 season Stocker's best European Cup result was 16th in the first descent from Les Orres . In the next winter , however, he was only 30th twice, for which he was able to win an FIS slalom. In the 2002/03 season Stocker drove his last European Cup races. He only crossed the finish line once in a total of six starts. The 14th place in Levi's second slalom on November 30, 2002 was his best EC result ever.

In 2003 Stocker began studying at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village in the US state of Nevada . From the winter of 2004 he therefore only took part in FIS and university races in the USA. He had his last starts on European soil at the Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck , where his best result was 21st place in the giant slalom. In the other disciplines he failed. In May 2007 Stocker graduated with a Bachelor's Degree . He drove his last FIS race in February 2008.
