Martin Weiss (born June 14, 1961 in Berlin ) is a violinist , guitarist and composer of gypsy jazz in the tradition of Django Reinhardt .

Live and act

Weiss comes from a Sinti family of musicians ; the guitarist Kussi Weiss is his younger brother. He founded his first band with his cousin Romani Weiss (guitar) and Willy Rehm (bass). It was supplemented by Pedro Tetour (guitar), later Rainer Weber (guitar) and Häns'che Weiss and carried the name Dja Maro Drom (We go our way). At the age of 17 Weiss was a soloist in the Häns'che Weiss Quintet. A little later a trio was formed, to which Vali Mayer joined. The band recorded 3 LPs / CDs. The Goethe-Institut sponsored and organized concert tours for the band in Brazil, Panama, Cuba, Mexico, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Tibet.

As a soloist and guest musician, he played with Stéphane Grappelli , Biréli Lagrène , Schnuckenack Reinhardt , Stochelo Rosenberg , Babik Reinhardt , Ravi Shankar , Oscar Peterson , Barney Kessel , Joe Pass , Milt Hinton , Ray Brown , Joe Zawinul , Philip Catherine , Hugo Strasser , Max Greger sen, Paul Kuhn , Horst Jankowski , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Hazy Osterwald , Alberto Weiss , the big band of the Hessischer Rundfunk and the RIAS Big Band Berlin .
