Martin Welzel

Martin Welzel (born November 11, 1972 in Vechta ) is a German organist , musicologist and music teacher .

biography

Martin Welzel grew up in Bremen , where Michael Landsky , church music director Wilfried Langosz and the Straube student and former Bremen cathedral organist Käte van Tricht were among his teachers. From 1993 he studied organ with Daniel Roth and Wolfgang Rübsam , choral conducting with Andreas Göpfert and Wolfgang Helbich , piano with Kristin Merscher and harpsichord with Gerald Hambitzer at the Saar University of Music in Saarbrücken . In 1999 he received the A diploma in Catholic church music and the concert qualification in organ, two years later the soloist diploma in organ. This was followed by several years of study abroad with Carole Terry in Seattle ( USA ) in the subjects organ and harpsichord, where he received his doctorate in 2005 with a dissertation on Jeanne Demessieux at the University of Washington as a Doctor of Musical Arts. During his studies was Welzel Fellow of Rotary International .

Between 2006 and 2007 he was a substitute professor for artistic organ playing and liturgical organ playing at the Saar University of Music in Saarbrücken and currently teaches practical piano playing at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Martin Welzel has published several records with organ works by Max Reger and has performed extensive concert activities as an organist in Europe, Russia , South Africa and the USA.
