Rainer Wedler ( pseudonym : Renarius Flabellarius ; born January 1, 1942 in Karlsruhe ) is a German writer .

Life

After graduating from high school, Rainer Wedler went to Turkey, West and North Africa as a cabin boy on ships of the merchant navy . He then studied German , history , political science and philosophy at the universities in Heidelberg and Mainz . After the state examination , he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1969 at the University of Heidelberg with a dissertation on the late medieval reception of the liber de vita by the English scholastic Walter Burley . He then worked in the school service and in promoting the gifted .

In addition to scientific work, Wedler, who is the author of novels, short stories, essays and poems, published poetry and prose in numerous anthologies and literary magazines. In 1995 the first novel The Kashubian Wound appeared . Theo Breuer attests to the 2003 novel Die Farben der Tailor's Chalk as extraordinary qualities in terms of subtle sensuality, cool clarity, a feeling for the always precise expression as well as a highly interesting topic .

From 1993 to 1996 Wedler was editor of the literary magazine Hirschstraße and from 1996 to 2000 of the Swiss magazine Scriptum ; since 2005 he has been on the editorial staff of the literary magazines Matrix and Bawülon .

After 2000 Wedler began to seek and establish a connection to the fine arts in the form of book objects . He stands in the tradition of documenta 6 : book destruction as metamorphoses of the book. In contrast to the Surrealists, who aimed at the destruction of meaning, here the books or the objects related to the book have always been carriers of meaning. In Wedler's work, irritations arise from the clash of diverging meanings. From his battered books ... works of art emerge like a phoenix from the ashes .

Wedler is a member of the Association of German Writers , the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German Writers in Baden-Württemberg .

Rainer Wedler lives in Ketsch .
