Mary Hagen , actually Marie Anna Wilhelmine Schön , (born May 27, 1876 in Diez an der Lahn , † November 12, 1944 in Weimar ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and actress .

Life

She was a student of Elka Gerster , Conrad Muschler and Selma Nicklass-Kempner .

The first appearances are recorded in 1896 at the Wilhelm Theater in Magdeburg , engagements in Kiel , Aachen and Görlitz followed. During this time she devoted herself increasingly to the operetta field and appeared at the Berlin Central Theater in 1898 . In 1900 engagements at the Berlin Residenz Theater , at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and at the Theater des Westens in Berlin and at the Komische Oper followed . Her move to the subject of the highly dramatic soprano for corresponding Wagner roles was granted little success.

Documented is a Mary Hagen as an actress in the film Gypsy Blood of Urban Gad from 1911 in the role of Baroness Korff Leonie .

After the end of her singing career, she settled down as a singing teacher. Since 1912 she was with the music critic Dr. Leopold Schmidt , who worked for the Berliner Tageblatt in Berlin . She spent the last phase of her life at the Emmy Göring Foundation in Weimar.
