Mary Peters (stunt woman)
Mary Peters , married Peters-Scannell (* before 1960 in California ), is an American former stunt woman and actress .
Life
Peters is the youngest daughter of a California police officer. She was athletic and strong from a young age, beating boys in car races and qualifying for the Junior Olympics in high jump . She modeled in the early 1970s. Then she took on the role of the red-haired nurse who regularly appeared in the background in the television series M * A * S * H for five years, which started her career in the film business. In the following three decades she appeared as a stuntwoman and actress in numerous film and television productions. In the stunt field, her activities included falling high, falling stairs, swimming, scuba diving, falling through windows, fire and explosion stunts, fighting, and precision and high speed driving, with stunts with cars being her specialty. She doubled Lynn Redgrave in many films, Vanessa Redgrave in What Really Happened to Baby Jane? (1991) and Sigourney Weaver in Copykill (1995), Alien: The Rebirth (1997) and the Ghostbusters films. Other films in which she was active as a stuntwoman include Lethal Weapon - Zwei Stahlharte Profis (1987) and Thelma & Louise (1991), in which she can be seen in two car stunts. She also used her talent to do charitable work, for example teaching wheelchair users in an old people's home how to fall without getting injured. As an actress, she played alongside small roles in other productions in the three films Evel Knievel (1971), White Slave of the Green Hell (1979) and Topper (1979).
Peters has a son. She left California in 2000 and followed her husband Stewart Scannell to his new job in Oklahoma City .
