Annamaria & Marzio Sala

Annamaria Sala (born April 18, 1930 in Meran , South Tyrol ; † December 31, 2013 in Bad Godesberg ) and Marzio Sala (born June 14, 1928 in Turin ; † February 15, 2009 ) were an artist couple.

Annamaria Sala studied music, literature and art history in Bozen , Lausanne and Heidelberg . She passed her diploma as a concert pianist in Bolzano. Marzio Sala studied art history, philosophy , mathematics and cognitive science in Turin and Zurich . The artist couple moved to Germany together in the 1960s, worked and lived on Lake Constance from 1963 and in Bad Godesberg from 1983 .

The Time Structures series, made up of drawings that were later translated into three-dimensional workpieces, was created at the beginning of the collaboration. "Sculpictura" is from 1964 and 1968, it is reliefs made of cardboard. In the 1970s, the film Time Language was made , one of the first computer-generated films in Germany, which was made in 1972 in collaboration with Forschungszentrum Jülich . The Chronhomme 1-7 series was created in the 1980s , a mixture of light projection and precisely executed hand drawings.

The work of Annamaria and Marzio Sala is at the interface of art, science and philosophy and is based on systems of signs, language and logic. It can be understood as a philosophical concept about contemplating and exploring space and time. For Annamaria and Marzio Sala, music and sound play a fundamental role as the dramaturgy of temporality.
