Masha Corman

Mascha Corman (* 1988 in Düsseldorf ) is a German jazz singer and composer .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Corman first studied music in the special education area with a focus on deaf education and supplemented this with artistic training at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in the area of jazz singing with Anette von Eichel and Frank Gratkowski ; she also took private lessons in New York with Fay Victor and Theo Bleckmann . In 2012 she founded her quartet emco , for which she composes and writes. The focus in this band lies in the connection of contemporary jazz, and free improvisation with lyric poetry as well as in the exploration of the noisy voice. Her debut album was released by Ajazz in 2016.

In 2015 and 2016 Corman curated together with Thea Soti the concert series “Moods” she initiated in the Cologne Loft , in which the voice was explored in improvisation and composition. She is also a member of the composers collective Sung Sound , which has worked with various big bands. In 2016 she composed for the Subway Jazz Orchestra . In the same year she opened the “ JazzBaltica ” festival with the Janning Trumann quartet .
