The government Muscat ( Arabic محافظة مسقط, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Masqaṭ ) is a governorate in the northeast of the Sultanate of Oman . The capital of the governorate is Muscat .

Since 2011, the sultanate has been divided into eleven governorates - administrative areas. One of them is the Muscat Governorate , which in turn has consisted of six Wilayat since 2006 . Its capital is Muscat .
