Matthew "Matt" De Marchi (born May 4, 1981 in Bemidji , Minnesota ) is a former Italian - American ice hockey player who has played in the Italian A1 series for HC Bozen , Asiago Hockey and Milano Rossoblu, among others .

Career

Matt De Marchi began his career as a hockey player with the North Iowa Huskies, for which he was active from 1997 to 1999 in the junior league United States Hockey League . He then attended the University of Minnesota for four years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . With his team he won the NCAA championship title in 2002 and 2003, and in 2003 the Broadmoor Trophy , the WCHA championship title. From 2003 to 2006, the defender played for the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League , before he was on the ice for a year for their league rivals Iowa Stars . He started the 2007/08 season at HC Bozen in the Italian Serie A1 and finished it at its league rivals Asiago Hockey . With Asiago he won the Italian championship title in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons . He spent the 2011/12 season at VIK Västerås HK from the second Swedish division, HockeyAllsvenskan . He then returned to Italy, where he signed with the newly promoted Milano Rossoblu .

International

For Italy De Marchi took part in the World Championships in 2010 and 2012 and the World Championship Division I 2011 part. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014 .
