Generous began his junior career with the New England Junior Falcons before he was drawn in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabers . However, Generous moved to St. Lawrence University . In the NCAA season 2008/09 Generous brought it on eight goals and 17 points as well as a plus-minus ratio of +5 in 35 games and was named the best defender in the league.

On April 1, 2009, Generous signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabers , but was only used in the farm team, the Portland Pirates .

After the training camp of the Buffalo Sabers Generous was sent again to the Portland Pirates in September 2009, where he spent the 2009/10 AHL season . In his first full professional season, he scored 2 goals and 11 assists in 61 games. At the end of the season, his contract ran out and Generous took part in the Providence Bruins training camp , but received no contract and then signed a one-year contract with the Reading Royals in the ECHL . In December of the same year he was loaned to the Lake Erie Monsters from the AHL.

In the summer of 2011, Generous decided to move to Europe and played for Rauman Lukko in the Liiga for the following three years . He then moved to the newly promoted Vaasan Sport for a year before being bartered to Helsingfors IFK in February 2015 . After the end of the 2016/17 season he left the HIFK and was signed by EC Red Bull Salzburg from the EBEL .
