Matt Korthuis (born September 22, 1981 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a former Dutch - Canadian ice hockey player who celebrated his greatest successes with HYS The Hague .

Career

Clubs

Matt Korthuis, who was born to Dutch parents in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan , began his career as an ice hockey player with the Estevan Bruins youth team , for which he played in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for two years . In 2002 he moved to the home of his ancestors, where he first played for one year for the Nijmegen Tigers and then for two years with the Heerenveen Flyers in the honor division . After a year with the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam , with whom he won the Dutch ice hockey cup in 2007 , he joined league competitor HYS The Hague , with whom he stayed for five years. With the team from the Dutch government metropolis he experienced his most successful time as an ice hockey player and won the Dutch championship title in 2009 and 2011, the North Sea Cup in 2011 and 2012 and the Dutch cup competition in 2012. After this success he moved to the southern hemisphere and ended his career with Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League in summer 2012 by winning the Goodall Cup , the Australian championship .

After retiring, he worked as a scout for the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League in the 2013/14 season .

International

Korthuis played for the Netherlands at the World Championships in Division I in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 .
