Matt Pavolka

Matthew Matt Pavolka (born April 9, 1978 ) is an American jazz bassist, trombonist and band leader.

Pavolka grew up in a musical family in Bloomington, Indiana ; his father is a professional trombonist, his mother a pianist and church organist. In his school days he first learned the trombone before switching to bass in high school. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and has been active in the New York jazz scene since the mid-1990s, where he has been a. worked with Nate Radley , Ben Holmes, Noah Preminger , Ohad Talmor , Guillermo Klein ( El Minotauro , 1997) and his wife Akiko. In 2008 he released his debut album Something People Can Use (Toneofapitch Records), on which Ben Monder , Pete Rende and Ted Poor contributed. Currently (2014) he works with his Matt Pavolka Horn Band (with Kirk Knuffke , Jacob Garchik , Loren Stillman and Mark Ferber ) and the Matt Pavolka Band . In the field of jazz he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 1995 and 2011. a. with Marlon Browden, Sylvain Leroux, Magali Souriau / Chris Cheek and the Trio This (with George Schuller ). In 2020 Pavolka will lead his Horns Band , which includes David Smith , Charlotte Greve , Jacob Garchik and Mark Ferber.
