Matthias Brender

Matthias Brender (born May 15, 1979 in Giengen an der Brenz ) is a German graduate in business administration (BA), journalist and managing director of the non-denominational, Christian television channel Bibel TV .

Brender grew up as the son of a shoe retailer in Giengen and already practiced advertising copy with Jörg Knoblauch during his school days at the Margarete-Steiff-Gymnasium Giengen . As a member of the Evangelical Church, he was involved in Christian youth work, worked on one of the first German church planting projects within the Evangelical Church, the Giengener "Oase", as well as on a school newspaper and the local newspaper, the "Heidenheimer Neue Presse" . In 1998 he completed an internship at the Evangelical Broadcasting Agency in Stuttgart, today's Evangelical Media House . After his community service at the Evangelical Society Stuttgart in the individual care for the severely disabled, he studied theology at the international The London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC) in England, founded by John Stott . He then began training with Norman Rentrop at the holding company of the Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft , where he implemented various direct marketing campaigns and developed a new magazine for the Rentrop Group. At the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Ravensburg , he studied media business administration, journalism and PR with a degree in business administration (BA), specializing in marketing communication, where he made his first experiences in a television studio and filming.

Brender completed a correspondence course in Protestant theology at the Institute for Church Building and World Mission . In 2017 he received the IGW Innovation Prize for his master's thesis on the popularity factors of Christian sermon video proclamation .

In 2003 Brender moved to Hamburg and worked until 2010 in the development and management of the fundraising department and viewer service at Bibel TV. Between 2009 and 2012 he headed the Christliche Impulse e. V. , which aimed to research the condition and growth opportunities of German communities. He produced films about various parishes and their attempts to arouse people's curiosity about God, as well as talks with Archbishop Robert Zollitsch and Roland Werner as well as films about the new beginnings in the Anglican and Catholic Church. In November 2012 he became co-managing director of Bibel TV before he took over the management as successor to Henning Röhl in February 2013 . In his new role, he wants to concentrate more on activities on the Internet and social media in the future.

As a consultant for Christian works, Brender is particularly active in the areas of fundraising and marketing and is a popular speaker for fundraising seminars and Christian events. He volunteers in a parish of the Salvation Army on St. Pauli, where he supports young homeless people with personal coaching and spiritual support on their way to normal life. He is a member of the North Elbe regional church, today's Evangelical Lutheran Church in northern Germany .
