Matthias Müller (filmmaker)
Matthias Müller (born March 29, 1961 in Bielefeld ) is a German filmmaker , known for found footage films.
life and work
Matthias Müller grew up as the son of a pastor and a teacher in Bielefeld and has been active in the field of experimental film , video and photography since 1980 . In 1984 he started working with Dirk Schaefer , who was involved in numerous Müller films as a musician. In 1985, Müller and eight other filmmakers, including Christiane Heuwinkel and Maja-Lene Rettig, founded the Super-8-Film- Cooperative Alte Kinder . They went on tour with their works and won numerous awards.
From 1981 to 1987 Müller studied German and art with Jürgen Heckmanns at Bielefeld University , then free art at the Braunschweig University of Art with Gerhard Büttenbender . Between 1994 and 1997 Müller taught as a visiting professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and from 1998 to 1999 at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences . Since 2003 he has held a professorship for experimental film at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne .
In addition to his own filmmaking, Müller also organizes film series, tour programs and festivals.
