Matthias Strucken (born May 24, 1977 in Neheim ) is a German jazz vibraphonist and composer from Cologne .

Career

From 1998 to 2007 Strucken studied school music secondary level II, jazz (artistic training), jazz (instrumental pedagogy) at the Musikhochschule in Cologne and passed the concert exam under Tom van der Geld . His main instruments are vibraphone and marimba , and he also plays drums and piano .

Concerts and projects

Strucken has won several prizes at the Jugend musiziert competition . He has worked in numerous projects and orchestras both in the classical context and in the field of jazz. For several years he was a member of the JugendJazzOrchester NRW and the Bundesjazzorchester under Peter Herbolzheimer . In workshops and many concerts, he worked with well-known musicians such as David Friedman , Barbara Dennerlein , Bill Ramsey , Paul Kuhn , Bobby McFerrin , Emil Mangelsdorff , Beverly Daley, Greetje Kauffeld , Siggi Gerhard , Wolfgang Haffner , Paul Kuhn, Klaus Doldinger , John Taylor , Phil Woods , Joe Viera , Hans Dekker , Adrian Mears , Andy Haderer and Henning Berg together. In addition to numerous appearances in Germany, he has already given concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Belarus, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico.

Strucken leads several of his own bands: the Matthias Strucken Swingtett, the Milt Jackson Project, the Latin band Con Mucho Gusto, the trio jazz 3 , the Behr-Strucken Duo, Artfusion and soulbrothers. He has also been working with Joscho Stephan since 2016 .
